Identification:

-Solitary, slender single trunk with a compact globular canopy
            -Fan-shape leaf, palmate, 3 feet wide,
            -Fiber and old petiole bases persistent on trunk
-Inconspicuous flower stalk, 1-2 feet long in the mass of leaves
-Small round fruit, blue, ¼ inch in diameter in summer

Note:   Windmill Palm is one of the hardiest palms in cultivation and frequently planted in residential and commercial landscapes.  The narrow canopy allows this species to be planted in relatively small areas to provide a vertical element and a distinctive tropical accent.  Available in tall sizes, but typically expensive due to its slow grow rate.
